Nigerian Man Criticizes Use of 'Baby' for Husbands, Calls for Divorce

In a series of controversial Facebook posts, Nigerian man Maketere Ugwu has sparked debate by declaring it disrespectful for a woman to call her husband 'baby'. Ugwu strongly advises men to consider divorce if their wives use such terms.

Ugwu argues that calling a husband 'baby' undermines family boundaries and respect. He believes this behavior confuses children, eroding their understanding of proper roles within the family. "Children won't know their left from their right because children become DADDY while their father becomes BABY," he wrote.

According to Ugwu, men who tolerate this perceived disrespect are contributing to societal chaos. He asserts that such men are "evil, unfortunate, criminals, and agents of social chaos."

Ugwu further claims that a wife's use of 'baby' for her husband diminishes his authority and respect both within the family and in public. He suggests that children will grow up without understanding how to respect men and elders, leading to a breakdown in family values.

For Ugwu, the term 'baby' is not a sign of affection but an insult that undermines a husband's role. He insists that women should use respectful terms such as 'my husband', 'papa umu gi', or 'nna anyi'. If unable to do so, Ugwu believes they should return to their father's house.
