"Nigerians must return to farming to fight food scarcity”

Nigerian Leaders Advocate Return to Farming to Combat Food Scarcity

Chief Pius Akinyelure, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and a key figure in the All Progressives Congress, has called on Nigerians to return to farming as a solution to the nation's food scarcity.

Speaking at an event in his hometown, organized by the Idanre Development Assembly, Akinyelure emphasized the critical role of farming in addressing current economic challenges. "If we don’t go back to the farm, where will we get food? We will be importing and the cost of importation is too high. So the only way out is to go back to the farm," he stated. He further highlighted the necessity of ensuring security for farmers to prevent them from being driven away from their lands.

The event, aimed at honoring notable individuals from the community, also featured Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who praised Akinyelure's contributions and described the award given to him as well-deserved. Aiyedatiwa noted that such recognition serves as motivation for others to contribute positively to their communities and the nation.

The Chairman of the organizing committee, Mayorkun Akinmoladun, explained that the event was meant to appreciate the efforts of past and present community heroes, encouraging current leaders to continue their good work.

The celebration underscored the importance of local contributions to national development, with a strong emphasis on returning to agriculture to ensure food security in Nigeria.
