Former President Barack Obama is reportedly urging President Joe Biden to reconsider his bid for re-election in 2024, according to sources cited by the Washington Post.
Obama and Biden, close allies, have had limited communication since Biden's problematic debate performance on June 27. During their conversation, Obama emphasized that Biden's chances of defeating former President Donald Trump had "greatly diminished."
In addition, Obama has been handling calls from anxious Democrats on Capitol Hill, the sources revealed.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), key figures in Congress, have privately cautioned Biden, 81, about a potential landslide defeat. They warned that if Biden remains the Democratic nominee, the party risks losing not only the presidency but also control of the House and Senate.
