Protest: Organizers Announce Venues for August 1 Protest, Forward Details to Inspector General of Police

The organizers of the planned August 1 to 10 hardship protest in Nigeria have disclosed the protest venues at the request of Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

In a letter authored by Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, the attorney representing the organizers, the locations for the protests were detailed and sent to the IGP. Adegboruwa also requested contact information for the police officers assigned to oversee the event.

“We represent the TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT and acknowledge the IGP’s commitment to upholding citizens' rights to public gatherings. We request the contact details of the police officials assigned to ensure a peaceful protest,” the letter read.

The organizers expressed their willingness to meet with the IGP virtually to facilitate broader participation, with Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, the NBA, other lawyers, and civil society organizations leading the discussion.

Earlier, IGP Egbetokun had confirmed police security for the protests in a letter to Adegboruwa. The police also scheduled a meeting with Adegboruwa for Tuesday.

This development occurs amid preparations for protests against the rising cost of living in Nigeria.
