Sir Keir Starmer, the leading candidate to become the next UK Prime Minister, has announced that transgender women with p3nises will not be permitted to use female toilets. This statement marks a shift from his previous position on the matter.
Starmer emphasized the need to protect women-only spaces, asserting that biological males should not be allowed in areas designated for women. He stated, "These spaces need to be protected."
The Labour Party's leading figure has taken this stance amid varying responses from party members regarding the use of women's toilets by trans women with p3nises.
In response to a question from author J.K. Rowling about whether pre-op trans women would be allowed in women-only spaces, Starmer told The Times, "No. They don’t have that right. They shouldn’t. That’s why I’ve always said biological women’s spaces need to be protected."
Regarding a potential meeting with Rowling, Starmer indicated a willingness to arrange it, saying, "I have indicated a willingness (to meet her). Hopefully, we can get that organised."
Rowling, who has expressed reservations about supporting Labour if it does not revise its stance on trans rights, responded critically. "You haven't always said this. You refused to give a yes/no answer and walked away the last time you were asked the question on camera," she remarked. Rowling also urged the Labour leadership to engage with grassroots women's and gay people's groups, who have been seeking a discussion on the issue.
