US Election: Kamala Harris Leads Trump in New Poll Following Biden’s Withdrawal

Vice President Kamala Harris has taken a narrow lead over former President Donald Trump in the latest national presidential poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos. The poll, which was released on Tuesday, shows Harris ahead with 44% compared to Trump’s 42%, a margin within the 3-percentage-point margin of error.

This shift follows significant developments in the political landscape. Last week, President Joe Biden was trailing Trump by two points in a similar poll before announcing his withdrawal from the race on Sunday, endorsing Harris as his successor. The new poll was conducted on Monday and Tuesday, following Biden's exit and the Republican National Convention, where Trump formally accepted the nomination on Thursday.

Harris, who has reportedly secured the Democratic nomination, was previously tied with Trump at 44% in a mid-July poll and trailed by one percentage point in an early July survey, both within the margin of error.

While national polls provide a snapshot of public support, Reuters emphasized that the outcome of the U.S. presidential election is ultimately determined by the Electoral College, influenced by a few key battleground states.
