Chelsea's planned acquisition of Atletico Madrid's young striker, Samu Omorodion, has fallen through due to complications in finalizing his contract. The Premier League club had previously agreed to a £34.5 million (€40 million) transfer fee for the Spain U21 international, who was expected to sign a seven-year deal with an option for an additional year.
However, despite the initial agreement, the transfer has been called off. The Athletic's David Ornstein reported that a significant issue arose during the final stages of contract negotiations, preventing the deal from being completed.
Chelsea had previously seen a €32.5 million (£27.4 million) offer for Omorodion rejected by Atletico Madrid in June. The 20-year-old striker spent last season on loan at Deportivo Alaves, where he impressed with nine goals and one assist, helping the team secure a 10th-place finish in La Liga.
As a result of the breakdown in negotiations, Chelsea has shifted their focus and made inquiries about signing Atletico's Joao Felix. This pursuit is separate from the ongoing discussions between Chelsea and Napoli regarding Romelu Lukaku and Victor Osimhen.
Born to Nigerian parents, Omorodion has chosen to represent Spain at the international level and has been capped by both the under-19 and under-21 national teams.
