President Bola Tinubu has firmly stated that the Nigeria he envisions has no room for ethnic bigotry. During a nationwide address on Sunday morning, Tinubu addressed the #EndBadGovernance protests, emphasizing the importance of unity and lawfulness.
Tinubu warned individuals and groups who have threatened other ethnic communities, stating, "The law will catch up with you." His remarks came after entities on social media called for Igbos to vacate Lagos State and urged South-Western indigenes in the South-East to return home ahead of protests planned for August 20-30, 2024.
The 10-day protest, which began on Thursday, was initially against the rising cost of living and hunger but escalated into violence, resulting in significant property damage and the loss of at least 17 lives. Amidst the turmoil, Tinubu reassured the nation, saying, "Our democracy progresses when the constitutional rights of every Nigerian are respected and protected."
In his address, Tinubu underscored the nation's commitment to unity and legal accountability, highlighting that Nigeria's future cannot tolerate ethnic hatred or threats.
