Nigerian Army personnel were deployed to Ekehuan Road to strengthen security and prevent youth from blocking the road as part of the #EndBadGovernance protest.
Reports from ELLIPTICAL NEWS indicate that on Sunday, local youths set up over 20 roadblocks on Ekehuan Road, affecting access to Ugbiyokho, Ekehuan Army Barracks, and other nearby communities. The roadblocks caused significant disruptions to both vehicular and pedestrian movement until Edo State Police intervened, dismantling the barricades and dispersing the protesters.
Adjacent streets were similarly barricaded, further impacting local traffic. In response, the Army stationed personnel at key locations, including Asoro Hill bus stop and Erediauwa Road along Ekehuan.
Security presence was also notable at the Benin branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Akpakpava Road, the Benin Correctional Centre on Sapele Road, and at the corporate headquarters of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC). Officers from the Department of State Service (DSS) were also present at the CBN and BEDC, while police officers and their vehicles were deployed at Kings Square and the Edo State House of Assembly.
Additionally, police removed barricades from streets leading to the city center, including Kings Square, the designated protest venue.
