Returning to the campaign trail, Trump criticized Tester, who is facing a tough re-election battle in a state where Trump remains highly popular. The former president emphasized the importance of winning the Senate race, which could determine the balance of power in the chamber. "We need the Senate," Trump declared to the enthusiastic crowd, highlighting the critical nature of the contest.
Tester’s Republican opponent, Tim Sheehy, a retired Navy SEAL and aerospace CEO, appeared at the rally alongside Trump. Although Sheehy was present, the event largely focused on Trump’s ongoing grievances with Tester, stemming from the senator’s role in blocking the nomination of Trump’s former White House doctor, Ronny Jackson, to lead the Veterans Affairs Department in 2018.
Jackson, now a congressman from Texas, also spoke at the rally, accusing Tester of trying to "destroy" him for political gain. The tension between Tester and Trump has been long-standing, with the former president using the Bozeman rally as an opportunity to settle old scores.
Trump’s visit to Montana followed a significant week for the Democrats, as Harris officially secured the Democratic nomination and selected Walz as her running mate. The new ticket has invigorated the Democratic base, though Trump wasted no time in launching attacks against both Harris and Walz. He employed visual aids during his speech, showcasing video clips of Harris, which he claimed highlighted her missteps and liberal stances.
The rally marked Trump’s first event outside of Florida this week, as he attempts to regain the spotlight from his Democratic rivals. His running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, has been closely shadowing the Harris-Walz campaign, aiming to contrast their platforms with that of Trump and himself.
In his speech, Trump derided Walz as "very freakish" and characterized the Democratic ticket as excessively liberal. He also mocked Harris, questioning her intelligence and falsely claiming that she is avoiding a debate with him. The rally underscored Trump’s strategy of painting his opponents as radical and out of touch with mainstream America.

Montana Senator Steve Daines, head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, has been instrumental in rallying support for Sheehy and believes that Montana could deliver Republicans the Senate majority in November. “Montana becomes very important because this becomes the 51st seat,” Daines emphasized before the rally.
The Montana Senate race, alongside the presidential campaign, is expected to draw intense national attention as Election Day approaches, with both parties vying for control in Washington.
