ABC Network Announces Presidential Debate as Trump Changes Stance
In a significant development, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have both agreed to participate in a presidential debate scheduled for September 10, as confirmed by US television network ABC.
This announcement follows Trump’s earlier hesitation to commit to the debate, citing a conflict of interest due to his ongoing litigation against ABC. However, Trump confirmed his participation on Thursday, stating he was eager to engage in the debate despite his initial concerns.
"ABC News will host qualifying presidential candidates on September 10," the network said in a statement, adding that both Trump and Harris had confirmed their attendance.
During a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump expressed his anticipation for the debate with Harris. He also disclosed that he had agreed to debate dates with Fox News on September 4, NBC on September 10, and ABC again on September 25.
"I think it's very important to have debates," Trump remarked, though he expressed doubts about whether Harris would agree to all the terms. He criticized Harris, questioning her competence and ability to handle interviews, but emphasized the need for the debates to "set the record straight."
While Harris had previously indicated her willingness to debate Trump on September 10, she has yet to comment on the recent developments or confirm her participation in the additional debates proposed by Trump.
